God's Wisdom vs Man's wisdom - 5/31/2026 - Watch on You Tube
| Job 1:20 |
The story of Job is well known and referred
to in scripture several times. Think about your worst day -
and Job's day far exceeded it. Yet, his response was to
worship. We whine, complain to God, and worse. Do we lose
trust in God just because of events, even those beyond our
control, when things do not go as planned? Consider the
patience of Job, and his response - he worshiped. |
| Job 32 |
When things go haywire, man's wisdom is
either to blame God directly or to assume that God is
punishing us for some secret sin. Yet after diligent search
none could discover Job's transgression. While the arguments
were intellectually correct, his three friends were far from
the truth of the matter. Man quickly leans on his own
understanding and wisdom to explain events without God's
mind, and comes to some seriously wrong conclusions. |
| Job 33:1-14 |
Job, though having integrity before God,
exclaims 'I am clean; I am innocent'. Even those who know
God can rely on their limited wisdom to justify their
actions. Self justification is a common trait across all
flesh. We, as Christians, need to be careful about
pronouncements without the mind of Christ. |
| Jer. 29:10-14 |
To get the mind of Christ we need need to lay
down all presupposition and agenda, and call on God with all
our heart open to Him. Prejudging a situation will obstruct
receiving wisdom from Him. Thank God He is open to teaching
those that come to Him with all their heart. |
| James 1:1-8 |
God's promise to those who want wisdom is
that He will answer those who ask. But there is a condition
to meet first - we must ask in faith. If we don't
believe He will answer, we will misuse any response or take
the glory ourselves. Why should God answer under those
conditions? The answer comes when we fully commit to Him. |
| Matt. 7:7-12 |
Jesus directly commands us to 'ask, seek,
knock'. Our response manifests our relationship to Him. Do
we respond with 'Abba, Father', or to a stern master who
reaps where he did not sow? Children naturally ask their
parents for a variety of things. Likewise we need to have
that same child-like relationship fo ask our Heavenly Father
what is on our heart. |
| James 3:13-4:1-10 |
Look how man's wisdom is displayed in the
world - strife, envying, wars, confusion, and every evil
work. When we ask according to the lusts of our flesh, no
good comes of it. The results do not invalidate God's
promises but clearly show the wisdom of the flesh in
self-serving and self-justifying and self-glorifying. This
wisdom is from beneath. Verse 3:17 describes the wisdom from
above - "first pure, then peaceable, gentle," etc. This is
Jesus Himself, who is our Savior and Friend. |
| 1 Cor. 1:18-30 |
Jesus is the answer to all our needs.
Friendless? He is our Friend. Simple? He is our Wisdom.
Lost? He is our Shepherd. On the path to Hell? He is our
Savior. In need? Cry out to Him and He will answer. |
How has man's wisdom advanced people's closeness to heaven? The
answer goes back to the lie in Genesis 3 - "ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil". The flesh sets itself as wise in its own
eyes; we condemn others; we excuse our own sin. Yet the Bible is
true. Proverbs 3:7 - "Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the Lord,
and depart from evil." We need the wisdom that comes from above.
Our loving Father sent His Son so that we could have access to the
wisdom that comes through Jesus. All we we have to do is ask in
faith; and trust and obey.
Amen. God bless you. -- Pastor
Paul
