Communion - 9/21/2025 - Watch on You Tube

Matt. 26:17-29
The background of communion starts with the Passover feast. The room is prepared (we need to prepare our hearts), betrayer identified (we need to cleanse ourselves), and the bread (His body) and wine (His blood) are distributed to those sanctified for His work.
John 6:30-40
Jesus is identified as "the true bread from heaven". All provision for our lives comes from our heavenly Father. And Jesus, being the Word of God incarnate, also comes from the Father.
Heb 9:18-23
The blood of the Passover identified His believers and caused the angel of death to pass over. Likewise, Jesus blood is our sacrificial substitute to purge us from sin and avoid the wrath of God on a sin filled world.
Mark 14:12-25
Parallel scripture to Matt. 26 with more detail on the betrayer.
Luke 22:7-8
Identifies that the Passover must be killed. Jesus is our Passover Lamb and must die as in Heb. 9; something Peter wrongly fought back against (Matt 16:21-23). People can be so convinced yet absolutely wrong.
Luke 22:15-20
A third parallel scripture on the bread and wine.
Exo. 12:1-14
This is the origin of Passover. While Christians may think of this as an old Jewish tradition, without the sacrificial lamb (Jesus) cleansing your sins, you will suffer a fate beyond the angel of death. (Luke 12:5) Jesus is the "Lamb, as it had been slain" (Rev. 5:6) who is worthy. He is the only way to come to the Father. (John 14:6)
John 6:41-59
Many look at Jesus as just a wise teacher and totally miss the fact that He is the Son of God. The manna in the desert preserved Israel naturally for a season, but Jesus, the living bread, is life eternal.
Gen 9:4;
Lev. 17:10-16;
Deu. 12:23
Since the life is in the blood, Jewish dietary laws directed that the blood must be drained from the animal prior to eating. In the sacrifices the blood was poured out as a witness to that perfect Lamb whose blood was poured out for our cleansing from sin.
Psa. 16:4
Many cults use blood in demonic rituals thinking it gives them power. This concept totally perverts God's law.
John 6:60-71
Eternal life is in the Word - Jesus' words and the whole Bible.  Follow Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and you will receive His life. The natural man cannot receive the things of God. Obeying His Word makes us alive. The bread and wine are symbolic of receiving His Word and His Spirit.
1 Cor. 10:16-23
As the Church is the body of Christ, we communally share in the blessing of God. In partaking in communion we must have forsaken sin and all fellowship with the devil.  (2 Tim. 2:19)
1 Cor. 11:19-34
While only 3 verses are typically read at a communion service, the whole context must be understood. Our hearts need to be prepared and any leaven (sin) cast out. Those that try to sneak in over the fence and avoid the gatekeeper (Jesus, John 10:1) God will judge as in Corinth. Also, see that communion is given in 'remembrance of me' and not as a religious duty or to gain the Lord's favor.
Rev. 5
Only the "Lamb, as it had been slain" is worthy to open the books. Only the blood of Jesus can wash away our sins. Only believing on and obeying His Word can prepare us for heaven and life eternal.

Through the millennia, denominations have wrongly sought to include or exclude people from communion and thereby granting the denominations power to open the gates of heaven. Communion does not save. Communion does not sanctify nor justify. Communion is taken in fellowship with believers as a remembrance of Jesus' blood shed on the cross and that His Word is our life. We must walk in newness of life to be worthy of Him.

Amen. God bless you. -- Pastor Paul
